Businesses often choose numbers that correspond to letters to spell a word or phrase related to the business, i.e., a gardening business with the number 1-800-GARDENS. Vanity numbers can be longer than a typical phone number to accommodate a word or phrase (the VoIP PBX ignores extra digits).
